To help you be more creative and overcome any negative self-talk... I'm a fan of the author, so might be a bit biased, however I believe this is a terrific book with enough details to get you started on your path of creativity, minimizing & overcoming your self doubt.

When I received my copy I thought I'd go straight to developing some heroes of my own but the very first part had me exposing my inner critic and facing up to it fair and square. In doing so I found I already have some heroes to call on. Skimming through the chapters I found really interesting creative strategies supporting the writing activities in fact my skimming turned to reading in short order because I became so engrossed. Suggestions, alternatives, ideas to extend what you have done are all there and I'm loving it! There's no call for expensive supplies, there's no marketing of brands and all the instructions are easy to follow for both the writing and the art activities . . . there are great photos to illustrate each step too. There are even alternatives about how to store or bind the cards you've made. The contributing artists add so much to each chapter and have a diverse range of creative style. I think Quinn McDonald has an amazing job with this book.
Having that voice that undermines us is not limited to people who keep an art journal and certainly the writer doesn't assume you do, her suggestions would enable any marginally creative person to examine their inner strengths and be their own hero! You definitely don't have to be an artist to reap the benefits.
