After the last lackluster book, Hanging Judge brings this series back on track, thanks to long time awesome author Victor Milan.
There is no doubt that Milan brought his A game again here, taking the companions into Oklahoma territory, (where this particular author was born apparently), where the companions get embroiled with a local Judge who hangs a lot of people who disagree with him.
When Jak Lauren gets his neck in the noose, the companions don't take kindly to that, and rescues the albino.
But getting saved by his friends is just the beginning of a savage hunt, which brings discord to the companions, leaving Jak to leave the group.
Hanging Judge is chock full of solid drama that one usually does not get in a DeathLands. There is lots more tension and relationship building here than normal, which makes the companions that much more believable and interesting.
Hanging Judge also introduces some of the most scariest and interesting new mutants and human bad guys that readers won't soon forget. Cutter Dan is up there with Cort Strasser and Colonel Zimyanin. (Only you hard core fans know who these guys are.)
And along with all that drama and double love story - is tons of blazing, well choreographed action scenes that just are not dull, nor seem all the same. From guns to knives, to 'ol hand-to-hand combat, old fans and new ones will be sure to love this one.

Obviously a new writer to the Axler fold who has not read the character guide. Too many colloquial terms, Ryan would never use the term "cache it" to tell some one to be quiet. "Bustin Caps" was another term that would would never escape Ryan's lips.
The book was one long combat sequence with no real plot or character development.
