Don't waste your money! I waited for the 2nd edition based on poor reviews of the 1st edition. I justified the higher price of this edition by thinking they had made improvemnts, and hoping for a reasonable trade-in on Amazon's textbok buyback program. Not so! Not only was the material a disappointment, this has a fraction of trade-in value of the other books in the series. I'm so disappointed that I spent close to seventy dollars on this book.
The book itself contains sample practice problems for the Programming, Plannng and Practice section of the ARE 4.0 architectural exams. I have found the sample problems in other books in this series to be helpful, although generally more difficult than the actual exam. In this case, because many of the exam questions are subjective verbal descriptions, the problems and explanations in this book only add to the confusion. I could not distinguish the logic used to explain the differences between right and wrong answers, and finally stopped studying with the book because it was hurting my confidence.

Need a cheap study book to help aid you for the PPP exam? This series of study guides is that aid. After you're done, you can just resell it back on Amazon. Not a big deal. So your total expenses for studying could realistically be just a few dollars of shipping fees.
This study guide is very helpful in the sense that the questions are very similar to the ones you might see on the real ARE exam. Two vignettes with solved layouts are also included. Couple that with the NCARB software problem and you should be good to go.
Is this the greatest book of all time and guarantees you to pass? No. It is a great supplement though.
