No One to Trust – Large Print Description

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Kyle Abernathy comes to work unexpectedly, only to see his partner in their office with the body of a man he has just killed. Because the risk of revealing his discovery is too great, Kyle is forced to bide his time and live with the fact that Sam is a murderer. A few months later, however, while Kyle is on a business trip, three men break into his house and threaten his wife, Summer. They want to know where Kyle is, although they refer to him as David Hackett. Suddenly, Summer has no idea who her husband is. Computer technician or criminal? Loving husband or complete stranger? In a world of lies, lies, and more lies, the truth is as elusive as a breeze. Eason is the author of the popular Deadly Reunion series (When the Smoke Clears, 2012; When a Heart Stops, 2012; When a Secret Kills, 2013), and readers who like such authors as Dee Henderson and Shirlee McCoy will also enjoy Eason’s thrilling, faith-based suspense novel. --Shelley Mosley

From the Back Cover

She doesn't know who she's running from--and the man she loves may be someone else entirely

Summer Abernathy wakes up one morning to find her husband missing, three men in her home intent on finding him, and the life she's been living based on a lie. Which Kyle Abernathy did she marry? The computer programmer she met in line at the bank? Or the one who was apparently using that image as a cover?

The search for her husband--and answers--takes Summer ever deeper into a world of organized crime where people are used one moment and discarded the next. And with her deepest relationship of trust already shattered, Summer doesn't know who to believe.

Always thrilling, bestselling author Lynette Eason outdoes herself in this taut, breakneck story of lies, loyalties, and love that will have you up all night to discover the truth hidden in the shadows.

When a book is labeled suspense I expect to either be in suspense or to be kept guessing at what/who is behind what's going on in the story. Neither of those things happened with No One to Trust. Overall it was an okay read, but I didn't think it was that suspenseful and I made several guesses early on (around page 60) and was right with every one of them.

That being said, the story wasn't unenjoyable. I thought it was an easy read but at the same time had I not had to finish it within a certain time frame for a review I probably would have set it aside and still wouldn't have finished it. The story just wasn't gripping and I wouldn't have had any trouble not finishing it.

There was a line a character said that I think really explained why I didn't care for this book all that much and it was "I feel like I'm in a Lifetime movie or something.". I almost always find those movies laughable and annoying, and this book did actually remind me of one of them at times, so that's probably part of the reason I didn't care for the book all that much.

Another reason is that I didn't care much for the main character, Summer. I thought she was whiny and very immature. She was constantly doing stupid things, like rushing out of a building when she was told it wasn't safe, and I just didn't like her. Yes, it would be terrible to learn that your husband has lied about who he is, but really all he lied about was his name - almost everything else was just changed a tiny bit, so her behavior was just strange to me.

I really liked David, but he almost seemed too perfect. Being so understanding of Summer's feelings, going out of his way to do things for her, etc. were all great and so sweet of him, but I don't recall ever seeing him get angry...
I've read many of Lynette Easons books in the past and while each one has been a fabulous, pulse-pounding read (her Women of Justice series landing easily into my favorites shelf) No One to Trust is easily my favorite book she has ever written! This book is over 300 pages long, and every single page is jam-packed with intense action and suspense!

The plot in No One to Trust was pretty intricate. Not only were you dashing around with Summer and Kyle, who constantly had people popping up who were trying to kill them, but you also had an elaborate history to learn about Kyle as well. I found it all fascinating and give kudos to Lynette Eason for her ability to weave such a complex background story into the mix without ever once missing a beat in the suspense.

For those of you who know my reading tastes, you know I like a book that will keep me at the edge of my seat the whole time -- and Lynette totally delivers that! The chapters are relatively short and each one opens with a bang. I also really liked how Lynette handled the 'romance'. Because Summer and Kyle were already married -- and because Summer was mad at him almost the whole book for lying to her -- there wasn't much physical romance that went on. Most of the love Kyle had for her was shown in deed and words, and it really showed the reader the depth of their relationship. And how their relationship deepened even more through your trials. It really was beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it develop.

One thing that is often lost in a suspense novel -- due to so much action going on -- is the character development. But I didn't find that lacking at all in No One to Trust!
