Murder, She Wrote: Prescription For Murder Description
In the newest novel in the USA Today bestselling series, Jessica Fletcher must diagnose a killer with a taste for bad medicine… Jessica’s latest book tour brings her to Tampa, Florida, where she meets up with an old friend, Cabot Cove’s Dr. Seth Hazlitt. Seth is in town visiting Alvaro Vasquez, a renowned physician who is developing a potentially groundbreaking cure for Alzheimer’s disease. If he’s successful, his American backers stand to make millions. But there’s a growing fear that the drug may fall into the wrong hands.
Jessica attends a party at Vasquez’s lavish home, but the celebration ends abruptly when Vasquez seems to be struck by lightning. Jessica and Seth do some digging into the physician’s checkered past and learn that his death was no accident. As they work together to find a cure for the common killer, they become enmeshed in international intrigue involving the local police, the FBI, and the CIA—and begin to wonder whether they’ll ever see Cabot Cove again.

It's only my eternal affection for the TV show on which these books are based that kept me from giving Prescription for Murder one star. I've read nearly every book in this series, and (as with any series!) the quality varies. They're sometimes moderately engaging and comforting. Other times, they're so poorly written that I have to force myself to finish. This one was, for me, among the series' very worst entries. The writing is flat, stiff and as dry as the proverbial desert. It's totally devoid of style and flair and at times quite amateurish. As with many Bain books, we get dull, cardboard characters who lack any distinctive personalities---and, yes, I'm including Jessica! I usually don't mind the glacial pacing, as that's part of what makes some of these books cozy, but in this case the pacing is really uneven and erratic. And, worst of all, this one suffers from horrendously sloppy plotting. It's hard to delve into the specifics of mystery plots for fear of spoiling my fellow bookworms, but suffice it to say that many of Bain's books tend to contain some of the most random, disappointing denouements I've ever read, and this one is particularly abysmal!
I wish I were among those who automatically love these books purely because they serve as nostalgic reminders of my beloved show. Sadly, Prescription for Murder just serves to remind me of how superior the TV series was to these books. For those of us who loved (and still love!) the show, there are a few entries worth reading. Slaying in Savannah leaps to mind as (in my opinion, of course) the best mystery the Bains have written. At a rather outrageous $10.99, though, I can't in good faith recommend that anyone download this massive disappointment. There are far better cozies out there at vastly more reasonable prices.

Will not purchase anymore "Murder,She Wrote"s. Thought this was a little boring. Maybe a wee bit far out about the visit to Cuba.Plot was not very original or believeable. And what is the bit about renting a car with no GPS?
